Therapy With Amanda

Many people come into therapy with an idea of how it is all supposed to go. Sometimes we see therapy in a movie or show. Maybe you've even tried going yourself. Oftentimes, these stereotypes and experiences can leave a bad taste in your mouth. My therapy style is a little different. I'm not here to pander to you or overwhelm you with empathy. When you work with me, you are working with someone who is experience-based and knowledgeable. There's no "therapy voice" here. You're getting genuine help from someone who has devoted their career to never letting their knowledge base become stale. Finding you the right therapist for your needs is the most important piece of this puzzle. Your time and effort is valuable and you deserve someone who can meet those needs..

My job is not to tell you what to do. Together, we'll find the path that suits you best. During my more than decade-long career, I've worked in treatment centers helping people at the beginning of their process of getting sober. Now in private practice, I am working with people struggling with ADHD. Let's find you relief as quickly as possible. We'll use a combined approach of dealing with daily issues and understanding the root of your problems. You don't have to stay stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Welcome

Hi, I’m Amanda. I have ADHD. I enjoy dancing, reading, singling loudly in my car, and making the occasional loaf of bread. My 12 year old dog supervises my online sessions, even though she does tend to sleep on the job. I have been in therapy myself a few times in my life. I spend an embarrassing amount of time on TikTok. I dislike mushrooms, it’s a texture thing.

Experience

I have over 10 years of experience working as a therapist in the field of addiction. In that time I have worked with a wide variety of issues and adult populations. My specialties are addiction and ADHD.

ADHD

Are you stuck on the hamster wheel of change? Going around and around and arriving at the same place no matter what you do? Most people have a pretty good idea of why they are struggling. Many even know what they should be doing about it. The hang-up always seems to be; getting from knowing what to do, to actually doing it. We live in a society that has set us up to misunderstand ourselves. When ideals are based on people who exude high-functioning abilities and perfectly disciplined personality types,  it's easy to feel inadequate. The truth is, no one actually lives up to those idealistic expectations. In my opinion, there is nothing inherently "wrong" with anyone. There is nothing that needs to be "fixed". I want to help you understand what's really going on between you and your environment. Are you ready to get off of that hamster wheel?

Despite appearing to be a capable adult, I used to miss deadlines. I often left my friends read because I had replied in my mind. No matter the approach, laundry remained my arch-nemesis. Feeling like I had forgotten something haunted me every moment of the day. Probably because I had forgotten something. Being diagnosed with ADHD wasn't a surprise, especially since all the clues were right there. Learning how I had been misunderstanding ADHD is what actually changed my life. No wonder everyday tasks seemed so difficult. My brain functions differently! I am passionate about using what I have learned to help others set up life systems that better serve the ways our brains function

Addiction and Long Term Sobriety

“Why do I still feel so stuck?” If you’ve been sober for any significant amount of time, you can probably relate. You did the work. Why is it still so difficult? We are promised, “just get clean and everything else will follow”. If only it were that simple. Sobriety gives you the necessary stability that allows strength and clarity to work on what really holds us back in life. Things like codependency, trauma, anxiety, depression, executive dysfunction... the list goes on and on. If you're stuck in the same patterns and struggling to figure out how to actually apply what you know, I'm your girl.

My job is not to tell you what to do. Together, we'll find the path that's best for you. You've done great work to get here, and I respect that. During my more than decade-long career, I've worked in treatment centers helping people at the beginning of their sobriety journey. Now in private practice, I am working with people who are farther along.

Addiction is challenging, no matter what phase of the process you are in. Even if you have been sober for years, you still deserve to have the support that understands your journey. You don't have to wait any longer to start getting yourself unstuck. Message me and set up your free, 15-minute consultation to find out for yourself.
